Can you? Will you?

You Should Listen To: Home Blitz.

I have to give full credit where it is due here. The sole reason for me discovering Home Blitz was the fantastic distro Indian Girl. While I haven’t made any purchases (hoping to do soon, too broke), some of the music I have discovered through it will further be discussed in this series. The band I want to start with is arguably more prolific than some of the smaller scale of the others, but they are fairly unknown, particularly in Australia. Much like many of the artists whose records are sold through the distro, Home Blitz specialise in lo-fi (there’s that word again) punk/pop tracks.

Hailing from New Jersey, they have released two LP’s of which I have only heard one. But it is really fantastic. Out of Phase in particular is a mirage of different styles. On one hand, tracks like “Don’t Talk to Me,” “World War III,” and “Route 18” are catchy, short pop tunes. On the flip side, some tracks are noise punk, filling with distorted guitars and incoherent vocals (“Other Side of the Street,” for one). While I would argue that the cleaner production of the former category favours the band, it’s all pretty great. Indian Girl sells Out of Phase and recent 7″ Perpetual Night, which is very much in the same vein of the cleaner pop songs on Out of Phase.

All of it is a great listen, and fans of catchy pop really need to give this a try. There was some ridiculously minor rumour about a Home Blitz visit for the annual Meredith Music Festival, but I will believe it when I see it. So while I can’t vouch for the live performance, what they are committing to tape is pretty damn fantastic.
