Can you? Will you?

You Should Listen To: Kitchen’s Floor.

Brisbane based three-piece Kitchen’s Floor are another band which played at the government funded gig that took play in the middle of Fortitude Valley during May, along with previous entrant Royal Headache. And like Royal Headache, they play a similar style of lo-fi music, albeit with a much slower pace. Kitchen Floor’s songs are 1-2 pieces which are built around distorted guitars and repeating melodies. Through all the roughness around the edges, they ultimately specialise in pop music. Really, really great pop songs with great hooks.

Like Royal Headache, they are also really fantastic live. This won’t be in everyone’s taste (someone has walked out on one of their gigs, exlaiming “This isn’t music!”), nor will everyone understand why this is so great. But I have no doubt that it is. Last year, they released Loneliness is a Dirty Mattress, their debut LP. Get on it.
